iPhone 17 Pro Could Finally Unlock Reverse Wireless Charging
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro might bring a long-rumored feature: the ability to wirelessly charge your other Apple gadgets. But will it actually launch next month—or stay locked away in Apple’s testing labs?
For years, rumors have swirled about iPhones gaining true reverse wireless charging—the ability to charge accessories like AirPods, Apple Watch, or even another iPhone just by placing them on the back of the device. Now, with the iPhone 17 Pro expected in September, that feature might finally become reality.
According to Weibo-based leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple has been testing reverse wireless charging on its new flagship iPhones. Whether the feature will be enabled at launch is still uncertain, but it would mark a major step forward for Apple’s ecosystem.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the rumor. Back in February, another Weibo leaker, Instant Digital, suggested Apple was experimenting with 7.5W reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. That’s more than enough to top up an Apple Watch during the day or give AirPods some extra juice on the go.
🔋 A Long Time Coming
Apple technically debuted reverse charging years ago—just not in the way most people expected. The MagSafe Battery Pack, released in 2021, could receive power from the iPhone itself when the phone was plugged into Lightning. But after Apple discontinued the accessory in 2023 and shifted entirely to USB-C, wireless reverse charging never returned.
Since then, iPhones can reverse charge small devices through the USB-C port at 4.5W, but wireless functionality has remained missing in action. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman have both hinted that a USB-C version of the MagSafe Battery Pack may arrive eventually—but neither has offered a firm timeline.
📅 What’s Next
Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 17 lineup at its September 9 event. If reverse wireless charging makes the cut, it could become one of the most practical upgrades for Apple users—eliminating the need to carry multiple chargers for every accessory.
For now, Apple fans will just have to wait and see if the iPhone 17 Pro becomes a true wireless charging hub—or if the feature remains in Apple’s vault for another year.
